Rapid Interactive Feedback - Lessons learned in Schlumberger RPS ’ corporate improvement program

It is assumed that many measurement programs fail because of the lack of normative models to assess a measurement program in advance. Our last years ESCOM presentation was about enhancing GQM with the characteristics of software development and software products. This enhancement improves the definition process of a measurement program. Schlumberger RPS is continuing its measurement program successfully, which appears to be largely due to its organisation of the feedback sessions. Our research is currently focused on normative models regarding this feedback process. This area is of special interest because rapid and interactive feedback sessions are regarded to be essential for the success of the entire process improvement program. This paper presents the results of research on learning by measurement feedback, and presents guidelines based on theory and experience for optimising the beneficial effects of feedback processes.
